Julie Herwig

Julie Herwig is Senior Vice President and head of the Office of Governmental Affairs at New York Life, overseeing state, federal and international public policy issues for the company.

Having joined New York Life in 2006, Ms. Herwig has served in several roles related to public policy and regulation. She most recently led federal governmental affairs, where she was responsible for developing and executing New York Life’s positions and strategies on public policy issues and communicating with key policymakers and regulators at the federal and international levels.

Prior to joining New York Life, she worked as trade counsel for the Ways and Means Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, advising Members of Congress on international trade negotiations and other legislative and regulatory trade issues. Additionally, Ms. Herwig previously worked for a member of the Ways and Means Committee, a member of the U.S. Senate and as an attorney at Hogan & Hartson LLP (now Hogan Lovells LLP).

Ms. Herwig earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, her MPA from Princeton University, and her JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a member of Order of the Coif.

Ms. Herwig is a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Affairs Council and Higher Achievement, a nonprofit dedicated to closing the opportunity gap for middle school students through afterschool and summer programs.
